SPIDERWEB

I know of two brothers who though
Challenged by adversaries stuck to each other
Like star and sky.
They had no family;
No mother, no father, no relatives,
Just each other and that was enough.
Well at least until It came.

It came with the darkness of the night
While the other brother was asleep,
Clad in an orange coloured hat,
A red shirt, dark green pants, and black shoes.
It’s fingers were adorned with the most expensive
Jewelleries, made with the most precious stones.
It came with promises of bringing heaven down to earth
With the angels serving at the feet of the brothers.
It promised a bite of the one fruit humanity
Will never have a taste of; immortality.

The promises were his last hope and Brother One
Wanted a better life for his brother and himself,
But he was not too sure about It’s one condition;
To sell It his soul.
One last glance at his sleeping brother with a second’s
Contemplation on feeding on hunger for another day,
And his mind was made up.
The profit from selling his soul was reasonable.

The next day, It cooked up another condition;
Brother One had to sing It’s praises in the streets
And get more worshippers.
He also had to smoke anyone who blasphemed against It.
Only after these conditions were met would heaven come
Down to earth.

On one of the days of Brother One’s evangelism,
He came in direct contact with It’s archenemy
And according to the charter, the enemy
Had to be smoked.
But just like him, this enemy was a
Tool in the hands of his master.
Just like him, this enemy had an innocent mind and
A pure purpose.
Just like Brother One, this enemy wanted more days
With his brother where hunger did not exist
And angels served at their feet.

So there they stood,
Caught in a spiderweb of had-I-knowns,
Guns pointed to each other’s heads,
Eyes and mouths wide open in shock,
Tears of sorrow and regret strolling down their cheeks.
Two brothers, birthed by the same mother,
Suckled by the same breasts,
Attached to each other like star and sky.
They had both eaten from the same plate of hunger
And drunk from the same cup of thirst for years.
Now they both had to snuff the life out of each other.
They held the guns, but their puppeteers’ fingers were
On the triggers.
It whispered commands into Brother One’s ear from obscurity.
It’s archenemy whispered commands into Brother Two’s ear from obscurity.
The commands sent chills down each brother’s spine.
The chills grew colder and colder as the voices
Grew louder and the commands were sterner
And then CRACK!
A bullet flew in the air and found a
Resting place in Brother One’s chest.
That night, the stars fell from the sky
And a dark, gloomy sky loomed over the earth
As It and It’s archenemy hunted for new prey.
